JOIN OUR NEW Political Black Black Pages Today Network  MySpace  GROUP!

Since this whole internet “thing” looks like it might stick around for a while, I decided to create a MySpace Black Pages Today/Political Black Group. What are we (i.e., you and me) going to do with it? I have no idea yet, but it’s yet another way for all of us to network. While you’re at it, feel free to add me to your Friends list so I don’t develop self-esteem issues.

NORTH CAROLINA Polls : A new WTVD-TV/SurveyUSA poll gives us an early snapshot of next year’s gubernatorial primaries. The Democrats: Lieutenant Governor Bev Perdue – 47%, State Treasurer Richard Moore – 38%. The Republicans: attorney Bill Graham – 26%, State Senator Fred Smith – 24%, former Supreme Court Justice Bob Orr – 15%.

In a major coup, former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) scored the endorsement Wednesday of influential televangelist Pat Robertson. A 1988 White House hopeful, Robertson runs the Christian Broadcasting Network and is the former national president of the Christian Coalition. The endorsement of Giuliani came as a surprise to leaders in the Religious Right movement, who warned for months that many Evangelical conservatives would back a pro-life third party candidate or stay home in November if the pro-choice Giuliani is the Republican nominee.

MSNBC’s Chuck Todd reported on current polling trends he’s seeing in surveys prepared for NBC/Wall Street Journal. Here are some excerpts: “General distrust of government is not a new phenomenon; it has been the fuel for electoral upheaval for decades. But it’s important to note that there may be evidence of a much angrier and anxious electorate than either party is preparing for in 2008. How angry are you?

“Light Skin Libra Birthday Bash” For Black Women

What Do You Think About It?

DETROIT — A local DJ and party promoter retreated Thursday from a plan to sponsor a bash that would let “light-skinned” black women into a downtown club for free.

But the “Light Skin Libra Birthday Bash” at Club APT on Woodward Avenue turned out to be a bashing — of promoter Ulysses “DJ Lish” Barnes after word of the unusual party spread on the Internet.”I made a mistake,” Barnes said. “I didn’t think there would be a backlash.” Barnes, who said he’s been a party promoter for six years, canceled the event. He said he has gotten angry calls and e-mails from around the country about the party.”I didn’t mean to offend anyone,” he said. “I had planned a party for other shades (of black women). We were going to take a shade of color each week. Next week was going to be a party for ‘Sexy Chocolate’ and the week after that ‘Sexy “ Caramel.’ Barnes is African-American and describes himself as “dark skinned.” The issue of skin color is an often painful and emotional among African-Americans. The history of slavery and the resulting legacy of intra- racial segregation have sometimes pitted darker- skinned and lighter-skinned blacks against one another.  more

“Justice Gone Bad”Justice Gone Bad http://www.blackpagestoday.com/justicegonebad.html Sign Our Online Petition To The State of North Carolina http://www.blackpagestoday.com/justicegonebad.htmlAs you know, we have been following the case of Melvin Bynum vs State of North Carolina for the past 3 years. http://marnitabynum.com  A plea deal that allows a minister who killed his wife to serve no more than seven years in prison amounts to getting away with murder, the Richmond County sheriff said. Recently it has come to our attention that the convicted murderer of this young woman is scheduled for a custody hearing on July 1, 2007. Talking about Justice Un-Served. He brutally murdered his wife and got off with a slap on the wrist. see  “Melvin Bynum vs State of NC” http://www.blackpagestoday.com/bynumvsncs.htmlThe department of corrections plans to determine if the Reverend Melvin Bynum(that’s right) he is a so-called preacher”, should be placed in a lower custody classification. In other words, they will review and determine if he should go from a medium facility to a minimum facility or less. We are asking all our members and visitors to send a letter  “SAMPLE LETTER” http://www.blackpagestoday.com/bynumemail.html to the custody review board on Marnita Bynum’s behalf.  The letter doesn’t have to be thorough it just needs to be clear, concise and to the point that this crooked preacher should not be move to a minimum security facility. This sample letter will give  you a general idea of how to format your own letter. The hearing date is approaching and I think that it is in our best interest if these letters reach the custody board no later than Friday, June 15, 2007. Input is vital. Our letters can have a major impact on the outcome of his custody hearing. Even in death, this woman can’t get  any justice. Let’s keeping fighting on Marnita’s behalf, and send a message that a Black Woman’s life is as valuable as anyone’s else.

God bless.

It looks like the Democrats will have a short rule in DC. They talked tough about ending the war last year while campaigning, but it looks like the desire for political comfort won out over real action, after the Democratic Congressional Leadership’s capitulation on Tuesday to the Bush White House on Iraq War funding. Pelosi, Hoyer and company can try to bull us as much as they want, wrap it in thick rhetorical trimming, and spin, whining and lying, but they shamefully lost their nerve this week on the single most important political issue facing our nation today.

Democratic leaders seemed to have forgotten they recaptured majority status largely on angry voter backlash to Bush’s blood letting, failed and seemingly never-ending military occupation of Iraq. Also the Immigration bill compromise will come back to haunt Democrats in 2008. We should send all those idiots from the CBC(Congressional Black Caucus) home over this bill.

Its becoming increasing clear that current Democratic leaders don’t have the guts to be real leaders, and will be out of office after the next elections.

Okay HRC.

Word has it that Black lawmakers are puzzled that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential campaign hasn’t used its political machine to solicit endorsements from key rank-and-file elected Democrats in early primary states. While most black Democrats are still uncommitted in their party’s 2008 presidential race, Barack Obama nails another one with Newark’s Mayor, Corey Booker. What’s the deal?  http://www.politicalblack.com

The Secret Service said Thursday that Democratic Sen. Barack Obama was being placed under its protection, the earliest ever for a presidential candidate. Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren said Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff authorized Obama’s protection after consultations with the congressional advisory committee. Zahren would not provide details of what led to the extra security, but said, “I’m not aware it was based on any threat.” In the last election, Democratic candidates John Kerry and John Edwards received their protection in February 2004 as they were competing for the party’s nomination. Obama’s detail comes nine months before the first votes are cast.  Federal law allows candidates to seek protection if they meet a series of standards, including public prominence as measured by polls and fundraising. http://www.politicalblack.com/blog.html

The first Democratic Presidential Debate in South Carolina on Thursday evening was an affair of politeness, friendly exchange that put most of us to sleep.

My thoughts:

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton didn’t do anything that change them as frontrunners.

John Edwards did okay and Joe Biden was Joe. The rest of the crowd was just that. Speaking of the crowd. Was this debate held at a Black University? The atmosphere was completely dead. I’m sorry members, but I should have told you to watch Detroit and Orlando. The best line of the night was Gravel…Barack..who in the hell are we going to NUKE!!!
